The EFDA Restorative Certification course is a state-approved expanded functions dental assistant training program for dental assistants in Illinois and Indiana. It covers composite restorations, interim restorations, dental materials, infection control, and hands-on clinical practice. Upon completion, dental assistants are authorized to place, pack and finish composite restorations under direct dentist supervision.

The EFDA course runs over 4 full days from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at our Chicago, Illinois training facility at 8755 West Higgins Rd. It includes a minimum of 16 hours of online didactic study completed before the in-person hands-on sessions and 14 hours of manikin-based clinical instruction.

Yes, the EFDA Restorative Certification course is approved for both Illinois and Indiana dental assistants. The course meets all requirements outlined in both the Illinois Dental Practice Act and Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA) guidelines. Both Illinois and Indiana dental assistants attend the same training at our Chicago facility.

To enroll, dental assistants must meet the following requirements: have at least 4,000 hours of clinical patient care experience and have completed an approved Coronal Polishing and Dental Sealants course.
